Google is joining the trend of other technology companies which has created their own internet TV service.
Sources of the Wall Street reported that the search engine giant has been making proposals to various media companies that would allow them to stream traditional TV programs. Google representatives even demonstrated the service to these media companies which has began a couple of months ago.
If Google was indeed venturing on this new service, it is joining other companies who were already working on the same service such as Intel, Sony, and Apple. However, the company had not confirmed yet the information.
Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu are the current online-video players but none of them offers conventional TV channels which will allow users to browse through channels like cable TV.
However, it is unlikely that the media companies will give tech companies licenses for their programs because this would mean extra work for them as well as they have to make financial arrangements with their current distributors regarding this new service. Most of them are more focused on expanding with their current distributors, according to Wall Street.
Google and other companies would need to purchase standard program bundles that cables and other satellite operators pay are paying if they would want to get the best channels. It may be difficult for them to close a deal with a different bundle as it will spark complaints from the current distributors.
Wall Street’s sources that Google’s current venture is its second attempt as it had made its first two years ago but failed to succeed in convincing the media companies. Well, that was two years ago when the demand was not as high as it is today. Intel was rumored to release the internet TV service before the year ends which will be called OnCue. However, the chipmaker declined to confirm the said news.
