Harvey and Scherzer have had monster seasons so far.

If not for his loss on Saturday, Scherzer would have gone into the Midsummer Classic undefeated. The University of Missouri product is 13-1 with a 3.19 ERA and 152 strikeouts. Truthfully, he has been the beneficiary of great run support. However, he has also fooled hitters and thrown strikes with a WHIP if 0.98. More importantly for the Tigers, Scherzer has picked up for Justin Verlander who is putting up good numbers but not having his typical Cy Young Award-calibur season (10-6, 3.50 ERA, 125 strikeouts).

"It means so much, especially for it being my first All-Star Game," said Scherzer after the annoucement. "This is what you dream for."

Harvey has been dominating hitters in what is only his first full season. The UNC product is 7-2 with a 2.35 ERA and 147 strikeouts.

He is getting the chance to pitch in his home ball park, something that hasn’t been done since 2004 when the Houston Atros’ Roger Clemens pitched in Minute Maid Park.

Harvey’s win total may be closer to Scherzer’s if the Mets gave him some run support. One of the ace’s two losses came after the Mets took a 2-1 defeat at the Hands of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Harvey said he appreciates the chance to start in front of his home fans.

"It's a huge honor," he explained. "I appreciate it. It's obviously here in New York. The fans have been great here all year. Hopefully I can make them proud.

Harvey’s teammate David Wright will be leading the NL Homerun Derby team against Robinson Cano’s AL HR derby team tonight at 8 pm. The All-Star game will take place at 8 p.m. Tuesday night.
