Ever since cameras became an essential part of every cell phone on the market, people have been longing for that feeling of adjusting the lens to capture the beauty seen by the naked eye that attracts the photographer in the first place. For so long, people have had to endure the zoomed out quality of all cell phone pictures as a fact of cell phone photography. However, thanks to a new device from Olloclip the zoom is back.
Olloclip, the company that is responsible for the 3-in-1 iPhone lens attachment (macro, panoramic and fisheye) has introduced its first telephoto lens for the iPhone 4 and above. According to Mashable, the $99.99 clip-on accessory adds a polarizing lens as well as a zoom feature for the iPhone. While these kinds of attachments are nothing new, this one is perhaps the most practical for iPhone photographers as others are either single use, incredibly big or require a special case to hold the lens in place.
Olloclip's aluminum 2X zoom lens attachment for the iPhone is built to fit comfortably over the corner of the iPhone. Although it is perhaps the most pocket friendly iPhone zoom adapter on the market, it is still longer than the iPhone 5 is wide. Although it's a little awkward users typically feel the things it can do outweigh its problems.
In addition to essentially putting the photographer twice as close to his or her subjects, the lens comes with the benefit of a shorter depth of field. For those who don't know, the iPhone comes with a long depth of field by default. This makes the camera a bit more all-purpose in that objects that are far away and close by are in focus. This allows the lens to make the subject of a photo more predominant.
According to the product's review from Mashable, if you're a pro or a hobbyist photographer and are less-than-thrilled with the limitations of the iPhone's camera, the Olloclip Telephoto lens attachment is a multi-talented investment.
