Royal Baby Gifts: Kate Middleton and Prince William Get Extravagant Baby Box; Includes Clothes, Toys and Condoms (PHOTOS)

Kate Middleton and Prince William are busy preparing for the arrival of their baby in July. Some reports have said that the royal couple will be having a small, intimate baby shower while others reports claim that they are choosing to opt out of the baby shower altogether. Either way that has not stopped guests from sending the parents-to-be a few gifts for the royal baby.

The Finnish government sent the couple a Finnish baby box, a cardboard box filled with goodies for both the expectant parents and the baby, E! News reports. The baby package is given to all expectant mothers in Finland and has been credited with reducing infant mortality rates and is something a lot of pregnant women look forward to.

The package contains several goodies including a baby mattress, mattress cover, under-sheet, sleeping bag, duvet cover and blanket, teething toys, a picture book, a bib, bra pads, bath towel with a hood, a toothbrush and hairbrush, baby lotion, clothing (leggings, shirts, rompers, socks and body suits), hats, a sleeping bag and a snowsuit. The most interesting gift among the items is probably condoms. All the gifts come in a decorative cardboard box that could also double as a crib for the infant. All the gifts included in the box can viewed here.

"We were delighted to receive the very kind gift of the maternity package from the Finnish government. It was a very thoughtful gesture and we're very grateful for it," a Kensington Palace spokesman told the BBC. "I'm sure the duke and duchess will be very interested to see the contents."

According to the Huffington Post, the package has been a tradition for the Finnish government since the 1930s. It was created to give all babies born in the country an equal start. A spokeswoman for Kela, the Social Insurance Institution of Finland told the BBC that they were excited to be able to give the royal couple the gift.

"Kela wanted to congratulate the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge... The maternity package gained such a positive response from all around the world," the spokesman said. "The timing was perfect that the royal couple is having a baby."
