Britain is planning on making some Asian and African countries cash out big time to stay in their country.
The European nation has put a few places on a list for "high risk" immigration abuse, including Nigeria, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Ghana. If citizens from these particular places wish to gain a British Visa, they must put down a cash bond for 3,000 euros (around $4,600) with their application.
If they stay in England for too long, the government might take the bond-think of it as a security deposit to ensure the rabble-rousers won't participate in any troublemaking during vacation.
According to The Sunday Times, starting November of this year, the British government will charge 3,000 euros to any visitor over 18 years old who wishes to stay in England for six months.
This charge is meant to cut out potential abusers of the British immigration system, according to Home Secretary Theresa May-a member of Prime Minister David Cameron's Conservative Party.
"This is the next step in making sure our immigration system is more selective, bringing down net migration from the hundreds of thousands to the tens of thousands while still welcoming the brightest and best to Britain," May said. "In the long run, we're interested in a system of bonds that deters overstaying and recovers costs if a foreign national has used our services."
May also mentioned the reason that Great Britain chose the Asian and African countries for selective immigration.
"The countries are being targeted by the Home Office because of the high volume of visitor visa applications and relatively high levels of fraud and abuse," The Sunday Times reported.
The six nations that will soon have to pay up for a visit to England are just the guinea pigs -May said the government wants to eventually impart the charges upon all countries that abuse England's immigration system.
According to Nigerian news service PM News, Cameron wants to lower net migration down to less than 100,000 in the next two years.
In 2012, 296,000 people given six-month visas came from India, 101,000 hailed from Nigeria and 53,000 from Pakistan. 14,000 people were each from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
Canada attempted imposing a similar immigration law in the recent past, but mass demonstrations against its discriminatory nature led legislators to ditch the plan.
