Anna Kendrick Pitches to Play Cinderella in ‘Into The Woods’

The role of Cinderella in "Into The Woods" could go to Anna Kendrick, if negotiations work out. The "Up In The Air" actress is said to be the latest star vying for a part in the film adaptation of the Broadway musical. According to Hollywood Reporter, other famous names hoping to get their names in the credit roll are Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Chris Pine, Jake Gyllenhaal, James Corden, Emily Blunt, Tracy Ullman and Christine Baranski.

27-year-old Kendrick showed off her singing chops last year in "Pitch Perfect", where she was part of an all-female a capella group. Her rendition of the song "Cups" was highly appreciated. In an interview with Collider last year, Kendrick admitted to being nervous about singing in a musical, but was excited as well. "One of the things I was really insistent on was that whenever I'm singing alone in the movie, I'm singing live on set. Because I think something is a little bit lost in the recording studio, and frankly I'm just not good in the recording studio, like I don't know how to do that. I think I'm just, I'm used to singing in front of people and singing in a recording booth was a little isolating and sterile. So, I was looking forward to the days when I got to sing live. Somebody would just blow a pitch pipe and then I would do the thing," she explained.

Slated for release in 2014, "Into The Woods" will be directed by Rob Marshall. The story as per IMDb is, "A witch conspires to teach important lessons to various characters of popular children's stories including Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk and Rapunzel." In an interaction with Hollywood Reporter last year, Marshall spoke about his interest in getting the Tony award-winning musical to the big screen, which resulted in a get-together with James Lapine (one of the co-writers of the original play) and Jerry Bruckheimer. "We talked about the meaning of it and how timely it is still, and about family - that's always at the core of our lives," he said.
