2500th Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame Goes to Jennifer Lopez

Singer and actress Jennifer Lopez (or J.Lo as she's called) has been honored with a star on Hollywood Boulevard's Walk of Fame. The felicitation ceremony took place Thursday.

Lopez's excitement about receiving what was to be the 2500th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was evident on her Twitter posts all through the day. "I wouldn't be where I am today w/o all of YOU and your infinite love & dedication. So excited for all of you to share this day with me!!! :)" she tweeted. Wearing a white top tucked into a flared peach-colored skirt and her hair in an updo at the ceremony, she posted a picture of herself posing with her star. "Me and my STAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Proud little girl from the Bronx," she tweeted.

Lopez was accompanied by her friends, including Jane Fonda and Pitbull, to the ceremony. Fonda (who's worked with Lopez in "Monster in Law") and Pitbull (a frequent collaborator on her music) took to the podium to sing her praises. In her acceptance speech, Lopez said, "I really am overwhelmed. This all feels, I don't know, kind of surreal, but really so real. It's so awesome." The 43-year-old got teary eyed as she thanked the people who have helped her in her career. "My dream was always to entertain, to be a performer. Stardom really wasn't what I sought. I never really thought about being famous or having money. I just wanted to be good at what I did. I wanted to be a great actress, singer and performer. I wanted people to come see me on stage because of what I did, not because of who I was. Scrutiny, criticism, fame and celebrity may be the trappings of stardom and I would endure them all to share the joy of entertaining you," said Lopez.

"In 1994, Sophia Loren became the recipient of the 2,000th star on the Walk of Fame. This ceremony marks the 2,500th star on our famous Walk and Jennifer Lopez was the obvious choice!" said Ana Martinez, producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies.

In the course of her career in entertainment, that has spanned more than two decades, Lopez has been an actor, a singer, a producer, a fashion designer and an entrepreneur. She also started The Lopez Family Foundation with her sister to help improve the well-being of women and children.
