Former President George H. W. Bush was rushed to a hospital in Houston, Texas Tuesday evening after having shortness of breath.

"The former president, age 90, will be held for observation, again as a precaution," the statement read, according to NBC News.

White House spokesperson Eric Schultz said the current president is aware of Bush's hospitalization.

"The President has been made aware that President Bush was admitted to the hospital. President Obama and the First Lady send their good wishes to the former President and the entire Bush family during this holiday season," Shultz said according to both Fox and NBC.

Bush, the 41st president, served two terms as vice president for Ronald Reagan beginning in 1988. Bush was then elected to serve as president for one term, losing his reelection to Bill Clinton.

The former POTUS has gone skydiving on at least three of his birthdays since his presidency, according to Fox News. In June, he celebrated his 90th natal day with a tandem parachute jump.

Bush, a former C.I.A. director, also suffers from Parkinson's disease and has recently had to rely on a motorized scooter or wheelchair to get around.
