Avago Technologies, the maker of a chip expected to be used in the next iPhone, said Apple may be pushing for a fall launch for the 5s, according to the Apple Insider.
Apple Insider was able to get a copy of a note written to investors by Maynard Um, an analyst at Wells Fargo Securites, concerning Avago and the next iPhone.
"Avago noted it is already seeing an initial ramp of a new product transition (we believe iPhone 5S) and expects a greater ramp in the following quarter (October quarter)," Um says in the not. "We anticipate more positive supply chain news from Apple suppliers through the summer and as we get closer to product launch."
According to Um, this new information from the chip’s maker shows “signs of life” from the supply chain for Apple. This means the iPhone 5s—or 6 if Apple chooses to skip the 5s—will make its appearance in September.
If Um is right, this would put the next iPhone’s launch almost exactly a year after the release of the iPhone 5 which made its appearance on Sept 12, 2012.
Rumors surrounding the next iPhone include a better camera and a new security feature that incorporates a fingerprint scanner under the iPhone’s home button. This would negate the need for passwords.
Apple let the world know about its curiosity in fingerprint security after it bought AuthenTec in 2012. AuthenTec, based in Florida, is known for its “Smart Sensor” technology which can identify fingerprints. The technology can also be embedded into a smartphone.
Other rumors have suggested the next iPhone will come with a larger screen, 12 megapixel camera, and a faster processor.
If in fact the next phone is a 5s, the 6 will not debut until 2014. According to Nothern Voices Online, the phone could have a "quad-core Apple A7 ARM Cortex A15" processor and "at least 2GB of RAM."
