Jockey Creates New Bra Sizing System; Goodbye A Cup

Jockey has created a new bra-sizing system that overrides the generally used "cup size," reported The Atlantic Wire.

Instead of using the common "A cup, D cup", sizing, the brand has come up with a way to make bras that will cater to different breast shapes.

The new bras will have sizes such as "1-30, 7-36, and 9-42." The second number represents the bust-to-ribcage length, but the first number will represent the actual cup size.

In a press release, jockey gave instructions on how to measure your bust size with this new system:

"Choose a Cup: Select a cup that looks closest to your size and place over the breast. Make sure there is full coverage with no gapping or spillage. Document your new cup size (1-10)

Measure Under the Bust: Take a direct measurement of your body's under-bust measurement using the color-coded, double-sided measuring band (reverse side is legible in your mirror). Choose from seven different band sizes (30, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40 or 42). Document your band size."

The band size will remain fairly standard to common norms, the cup size on the other hand is what the creators feel is revolutionary.

"It took us eight years to develop the new Jockey bra and its revolutionary Volumetric Fit System," stated Sally Tomkins, senior vice president of design of research and development for Jockey.

The system claims to be able to perfectly fit busts of all shapes and sizes, but it still asks women to fit into one of ten cup measurements, this is still an improvement to the current system, but it might not be a "perfect fit."

"It's a great idea, but is my 9 cup with a 32 band going to be the same as someone else who has a 9 cup and, say, a 38 band? Will the underwire be adjusted for that difference?" Said Charla Welch from the bra blog Bra Crusader, reported the Huffington Post.
