Heavy metal frontman Tim Lambesis has posted $2 million bail and was released Thursday during a closed session, according to ABC News in San Diego.
A readiness conference ahead of the singer's trial is scheduled for June 26, according to ABC. The As I Lay Dying singer, who has been accused of allegedly plotting to kill his estranged wife, could spend nine years in prison if convicted. While his lawyers have said he could not possibly come up with $2 million bail that had already been reduced from $3 million and requested a $250,000 set amount, Lambesis posted Thursday and was released from prison.
Lambesis denies the charges and has been ordered to stay away from his estranged wife and children, wear a GPS montor and has been placed under strict travel restrictions.
Lambesis was arrested at a Bookstore in Oceanside, Calif. May 7 after police alleged he attempted to pay an undercover agent, posing as a hit-man, $1,000 to have his estranged wife killed.
Lawyers for Lambesis say the singer was on steroids at the time of the alleged plot and that the drug was negatively influencing his decisions. Thomas Warwick, the singer's lawyer, said that Lambesis had started taking steroids when he began body building. His obsession with body building, was one of the reasons Meggan, his wife, cited for filing for divorce in documents.
While Meggan had not previously indicated she was afraid of the singer ahead of the alleged attempted murder plot allegations, she has reportedly been in hiding since the time of the incident. ABC News says
A neighbor to the parents of Lambesis told ABC that she heard yelling coming from inside the singer's parents' house on Memorial Day. She said it was a shouting match between Lambesis' dad and the spouse, Megann, who had been in hiding at least a couple of days before her Lambesis' arrest.
"Now instead of the noisy neighbors I call them the crazy neighbors," the neighbor, Charlene Walker told the news affiliate. "I'm thinking about getting a gun, I'm kind of worried."
She told ABC that over the Memorial Day weekend, she heard Meggan yelling back and forth with Lambesis' father, Nick, inside the house.
"She was here. The wife was here screaming at Nick, It's not about the money it's not about the money. She just said I don't care if all the money goes to Africa. She says I have my own job, I have my own money," Walker told ABC.
The Grammy-nominated band As I Lay Dying, who was scheduled to go on tour this summer, has decided to cancel their tour. The band posted a message to fans in response to the events surrounding Lambesis on their website:
"In light of recent events, As I Lay Dying will unfortunately not be taking part in the upcoming tour with Killswitch Engage. Given the circumstances, we feel that it is best for the band to be off the road while the current situation gets sorted. We'd like to thank all of our fans for their ongoing support at this difficult time."
