Pregnant Virginia Mom Dies After Being Stung By Wasps In Own Backyard

A pregnant Virginia woman was killed after she was stung multiple times by wasps in her own backyard, NBC Washington reported.

Sarah Harkins, who had four other children, suffered multiple wasp stings while in the backyard of her Spotsylvania County home on Sunday. The stings led to an allergic reaction and she was rushed to the hospital, but doctors were unable to save her and the unborn baby due to another medical condition.

"It was discovered there was a brain aneurysm, and during the trauma of it all, it burst and caused her death," Tom Schulzetenberg, the victim's brother, told the station.

The stay-at-home mother leaves behind her four children, a husband and several siblings. Harkins, who was expecting a baby girl, was to turn 33 on Saturday. She made rosary beads and sold them online. She also ran a blog, The Clay Rosary Girl.

"It's something that you never really prepare for," Schulzetenberg told NBC Washington. "We're doing our best to hold each other up."

The family set up a donation page at YouCaring.com and another site to help raise funds for the children's care. Schulzetenberg said Harkins' husband, Eric, is not equipped to take care of the kids by himself.

The family has received over $150,000 as of Friday.

"We've received donations from France, Germany, Japan," the brother told the station. "Pray for the children. Pray for Eric. Pray for peace and strength for them."
