Marvel Comics Reveals African-American Captain America

Marvel Comics has revealed its new Captain America, and this time he's an African-American.

Joe Quesada, Chief Creative Officer for Marvel, revealed the change during an exclusive interview in "The Colbert Report". According to Quesada, comic fans will start seeing Sam Wilson, formerly known as "The Falcon", taking over Steve Rogers' duties as "Cap" in future installments of the long-running superhero franchise.

Sam Wilson first made his appearance as the superhero "Falcon" back in 1969, becoming one of the very first black superheroes in the comics. In the movies, though, Wilson appeared in the Captain America sequel "Winter Soldier", played by actor Anthony Mackie.

"It's about time. In 2014, this should be a thing that we shrug off, it shouldn't be seen as revolutionary, but it still feels exciting," Tom Brevoort, Marvel executive director, said of the change, according to NY Daily News.

For fans of the original Captain America, Brevoort explained that they had no plans of killing off the patriotic superhero this time, but instead had turned Steve Rogers into a 90-year-old man in his latest storyline.

The announcement comes just one day after Marvel unveiled the new comic-book version of Thor, who is now a female.

Another huge change regarding Marvel's superheroes revolve around Iron Man, who is apparently getting a new suit. The new storyline in November will see Tony Stark in San Francisco sporting a new silver suit, with some very ambitious plans for his new city.

Senior Editor Mark Paniccia said the plan is for Tony Stark to return to his egocentric playboy ways, which might make the new Iron Man a bit difficult to root for.

"What's fun about Superior Iron Man is we get to see Tony Stark in a different mode. He's very much like he was before Iron Man's origin, before Tony became a Super Hero...a narcissistic, selfish profiteer. And Tom Taylor is having a blast with this personality, giving us an Iron Man that is bound to ruffle some fans' feathers but will secretly-I think-find to be a guilty pleasure," said Paniccia.
