Tom Cruise Files A Lawsuit Against Magazine That Claimed He abandoned Daughter, Suri

Tom Cruise filed a $50-million lawsuit against publishers of celebrity magazines "In Touch" and "Life&Style" claiming that Cruise abandoned her daughter.

"Tom is a caring father who dearly loves Suri. She's a vital part of his life and always will be," Bert Fields, Cruise's lawyer said in a statement. "To say he has 'abandoned' her is a vicious lie. To say it in lurid headlines with a tearful picture of Suri is reprehensible."

The magazines claimed Cruise abandoned his daughter, Suri. The lawsuit was precise about two stories published by "In Touch" and "Life & Style" magazines in July and September which had the headlines "Abandoned by Daddy" and "Abandoned by her dad."

Suri is the only child of Cruise and Katie Holmes. Cruise and Holmes were married for five and a half years. They finalized their divorce July 9. Since his divorce from Holmes the actor has faced various media outlets.

Cruise's lawyer has been in touch with media and speaks about the reason for Cruise suing the magazines.

"Tom doesn't go around suing people," he said. "He's not a litigious guy. But when these sleaze peddlers try to make money with disgusting lies about his relationship with his child, you bet he's going to sue."

Fields also adds to his statement by expressing his disconcert with the owner of the magazine "Life & Style."

"These serial defamers are foreign-owned companies with their global headquarters in Hamburg," said Fields about the publisher. "They take money from unsuspecting Americans by selling their malicious garbage. Having to pay a libel judgment may slow them down. Tom will undoubtedly give the money to charity. He always has."
