Apple is rumored to be working on a sapphire crystal display for its 4.7-inch iPhone 6 model, making it scratchproof and hard to break.

Apple, the renowned smartphone brand, is planning to make the next iPhone model more durable than its predecessors. According to new video claims, Apple is reportedly planning to make the display of its rumored iPhone 6 with sapphire crystal material. The rumors come from reliable sources, Sonny Dickson and Marques Brownlee, who demonstrated the toughness of the potential iPhone 6 cover in separate videos.

Dickson's video on YouTube shows just a flexible sapphire crystal display cover while Brownlee's video on The Tech Block shows a much detailed preview of what he claims to be an actual, straight-off-the-assembly-line part from Apple. Brownlee gave the display a torture test by trying to scratch the surface and also chipping it with a knife. There were no scratches on the display. He then bends the display but fails in his attempt saying, "there is absolutely no way I can break this display under my own power."

Use of sapphire display for iPhone 6 was previously reported in February, limited to a 100 - 200 million units of the bigger iPhone model. But the new video shows it will also be used as a protection for the 4.7-inch variant.

It is not the first time Apple has worked with sapphire for its iPhone models. The tech giant used sapphire on small surface areas like the home button and camera lens in last year's iPhone 5S model. Protecting the entire display with sapphire crystal will be a huge progress.

Apple has been relatively quiet about the whole iPhone 6 story but several rumors have detailed some of the specs of the futuristic iPhone. Rumors started building as early as this year, which started with reports claiming Apple's plans for two iPhone models with larger screen sizes. Months later, the two screen sizes for iPhone 6, 4.7 and 5.5 inches, are concrete with new details emerging. Most recently, Apple's patented feature for automatic unlocking suggests a possible integration of location-based unlocking for iPhone 6. The Cupertino-based tech giant has been quite all along, but the launch is expected this September, same month as the iPhone 5S launch last year.
