Halle Berry is the latest actor to go from the big screen to the television screen - and she certainly doesn't regret her decision.

In this week's issue of Entertainment Weekly, the 47-year-old actress finally opens up about returning to the small screen for the first time in nearly a decade, to work with the legendary Steven Spielberg.

Berry is set to star in CBS's "Extant," a 13-episode miniseries about astronaut Molly Woods, who goes on a 13-month solo mission in space, then returns home mysteriously pregnant. The mother of two said she was immediately drawn to the character.

"The minute I started to read it, I couldn't put it down," Berry said. "I thought, 'Wow. This is different.' It's innovative. Molly is a strong female character, which I really love to play. Molly is a complicated woman with a complicated family. Who is a woman who goes away to space for a year and leaves her husband, first of all? Who is a woman who comes back pregnant and tries to handle it somehow on her own? That just felt like a complication that I wanted to be a part of."

The award-winning star added, "I realized some of the best writing, especially for women, was on television" and admitted that Spielberg's script had the quality she needed to make the commitment.

"I was being offered parts that I felt like I had done before," Berry told Entertainment Weekly. "They weren't exciting enough for me to leave my family for four months."

But hiring an A-list actress for the small screen can come with a set of serious expenses. According to the Entertainment Weekly article, Berry is earning "$100,000 an episode and a coexecutive producing credit." The actress also "requested a closed set."

"Extant" co-stars Goran Visnjic and Camryn Manheim, and is scheduled to premiere July 9 on CBS.
