Disney Announces Global Release of Japan’s Line: Disney Tsum Tsum Game

Disney announced Tuesday that it is working with Japanese messaging app Line to globally release the free puzzle app Line: Disney Tsum Tsum.

Line will be available as part of a game-toy combo with the Disney Tsum Tsum stackable soft toy line of items, according to VentureBeat. The app, which was introduced in Japan in 2011, has over 300 million users around the world.

The deal between Disney and Line marks one of the few times that Disney has introduced a Japanese-based product to countries across the globe.

"Disney Tsum Tusm has quickly become a phenomenon in Japan, and we are very excited about the Japan-oriented franchise now going global," said Paul Candland, president of The Walt Disney Company in Japan. "Disney Tsum Tsum is both a physical product and a digital game, allowing our guests to enjoy a multi-dimensional experience. We are hopeful that the Disney Tsum Tsum franchise will be loved and enjoyed by our guests around the world."

The game translates to "Disney Stack Stack" and will be available for Android and iPhone devices in the U.S. and 39 other regions around the world, PC Magazine reported. It has already received over 14 million downloads just in Japan, making it the country's top free app on both Android and iOS.

The goal of Line is to match and eliminate as many Disney-themed Tsum characters as possible in one minute by making sets of at least three Tsums. Players can get higher scores by popping more characters in each level, and will collect Mickie Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Buzz Lightyear, Stitch and other Tsums as they progress. Each of these characters has special abilities that can help players get higher scores.

The Tsum Tsum soft toys include Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh and many other Disney characters, and cost between $4.95 and $24.95, VentureBeat reported.

The soft toys are now available at DisneyStore.com, select store locations in North America, and Disney Parks.

Line: Disney Tsum Tsum is targeted towards kids and adults, and is available now in the App Store and Google Play to download for free.
