Henry Cavill's debut as Superman (minus the famous red trunks) and his everyday avatar Clark Kent in "Man Of Steel" is ever so close now, and the latest trailer "Fate of Your Planet" is timed to fuel the excitement.
Released on Tuesday, the trailer features a voice-over by the villain General Zod, informing the people of Earth that they have sheltered one of his citizens from the planet Krypton.
"To those of you who know of his location, the fate of your planet rests in your hands," warns Zod. "To Kal-El, I say this: surrender within 24 hours or watch this world suffer the consequences."
The reboot of the Superman franchise is slated for release on June 14. The plot, according to the official website: "A young boy learns that he has extraordinary powers and is not of this earth. As a young man, he journeys to discover where he came from and what he was sent here to do. But the hero in him must emerge if he is to save the world from annihilation and become the symbol of hope for all mankind."
Besides Cavill, who has previously appeared in films like "The Count Of Monte Cristo" and "Stardust" and the TV series "The Tudors", the film stars Amy Adams as reporter and love interest Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Daily Planet editor-in-chief Perry White, Michael Shannon as Zod, and Russell Crowe as Superman or Kal-El's father, Jor-El. The film is directed by Zack Snyder, who also made "300" and "Watchmen", and is produced by Christopher Nolan, Charles Roven, Emma Thomas and Deborah Snyder.
In a behind-the-scenes promo video, Zack Snyder reveals that the movie begins with Kent wondering about which world he belongs to and who he really is.
"Starting the movie from that point of view allows the audience in, because they share those same questions and insecurities about their places in the world," explains Snyder. "Superman is from another planet. He calls into question so much of what we take for granted, whether it be philosophical or physics; he has come to Earth to remind us of ourselves."
