While very few fans seem to publicly challenge Ted Nugent's opinions on gun control, the singer's brother is speaking out on the "Cat Scratch Fever" singer's extreme views.
Ted's older brother, Jeffery Nugent wrote an op-ed piece, published Friday in The Washington Post, saying he does not agree with his brother's views on background check expansion for gun ownership. He says while that he agrees with his brothers' belief in the right to bear arms, his stance on background checks is off.
"I agree with Ted that our constitutional right to bear arms should not be undermined," he wrot. "I want all those who are qualified to purchase a gun to be able to do so. But - and here is where I part ways with my brother - not everyone is qualified to own a gun, so expanded background checks should be a legislative priority."
Ted Nugent spoke out against background check legislation earlier this year, labeling it "The Ban Ted Nugent Act of 2013."
Jeffrey attended the NRA National Convention this year with his brother Ted who gave the final speech at the convention. Jeffrey, who is also the former chief executive and president of Revlon, spoke to the NRA convention experience in his op-ed, saying that his brother is someone who makes extreme points and knows his audience. In the op-ed, Jeffery also challenges the NRA, the group his brother has consistently supported.
"The NRA has it wrong: Irresponsible gun owners are bad for everyone," he wrote. "If you shouldn't have access to a gun, then there should be no way for you to access a gun! Can anyone argue with that?"
