Xiaomi intensified the 4K Smart TV race by announcing the launch of Mi TV 2, with a 49-inch 4K display for just $645.

Xiaomi Mi Pad wasn't the only gadget revealed at an event in Beijing Thursday. The Chinese manufacturer took the stage to show off the successor of the Mi TV.  The latest addition to the Xiaomi television lineup, the Mi TV 2, packs an impressive design and incredible specs for a smart TV priced at such low cost. Xiaomi CEO and co-founder Lei Jun launched the second generation television and briefed the audience the product.

Mi TV 2 features an impressive 49-inch 4K panel with 3890x2160 pixel resolution packed in an extremely thin at just 15.5mm, with a 6.2mm aluminum bezel. The smart television is powered by a 1.45GHz processor, 2GB RAM, 8GB flash memory, expandable up to 64GB via microSD cards. The television is based on Android with the MIUI TV skin on it, the description on the company's official Facebook page states. Compared to the Mi TV, the Mi TV 2 is two inches bigger, 30 percent lighter and around one quarter thinner.

To maintain a thin panel, Xiaomi split the sound system into a separate sound bar and sub woofer. The speaker set also has built-in Bluetooth and can be used to pair with a mobile device to just play music.

The Mi TV 2 comes with its own exclusive features. The remote control used to operate the television uses a Bluetooth LE connection and not the standard infrared method. Xiaomi has a unique feature installed for those who frequently misplace their controls. A control finder is placed at the bottom of the TV, which triggers a ring on the remote when activated. Also, a companion app for the phone can help TV owners use gestures and voice to control the TV, according to Engadget.

Xiaomi's Mi TV 2, with all the features and specs, comes at an affordable price of $645, but the company has no immediate plans to sell the TV outside China. Pre-order for the Mi TV 2 in China begins May 27 for CN ¥3,999.
