The series heads to Philadelphia tied 1-1. The Flyers bounced back from their 4-1 loss in Game 1 with a 4-2 win on Sunday against the Rangers. After giving up two goals early in the first period, Flyers backup goalie Ray Emery seemed to get into rhythm and didn't allow another score for the entire game.
The win at Madison Square Garden ended a nine-game losing streak at the venue and marked Emery's first postseason win in three years, according to the Associated Press.
"I try to stay even-keeled, whether it's going well or you don't get off to the start you want," Emery told the Associated Press after the game. "I play with a system in there, and I just kind of rely on that. I've had leads before and I've been down before so it's just kind of a consistent approach."
Sunday's victory also gave the Flyers a boost of confidence as they take the series back home for the next two games.
"That's a huge weight off our shoulders, to come in here and get the split," Flyers defenseman Luke Schenn said. "Going back home, we feel a bit better about ourselves."
Now the burden falls on New York to win in Philadelphia, where the Rangers were 0-2 this season.
"It's going to be a loud building, and they're going to come," Rangers center Brad Richards said. "Our regular season road record doesn't really matter unless we can win some road games in this series. That's all we're really looking at. It doesn't matter what we did before. Starting tomorrow we need to go in and try and win a game."
