Kraft Foods recalled thousands of pounds of Oscar Mayer Classic Wieners due to an error where Classic Cheese Dogs were placed inside of packages labeled as Classic Wieners.
The Columbia, Missouri-based company recalled 96,000 pounds of Classic Wieners when it came to light that the list of ingredients on the Classic's packaging is different from the ingredients in the Cheese Dogs, CNN reported.
The incorrect labels "do not reflect the ingredients associated with the pasteurized cheese in the cheese dogs," the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service said in a statement.
More specifically, the cheese dogs were made with milk, which some are allergic to and was not identified on the Classic Wiener's label.
"The problem was discovered by a consumer who notified the company on April 18, 2014. The company contacted the USDA the following day regarding the issue," the statement said.
Afterwards Kraft said it was voluntarily recalling the hot dogs "because they may be mislabeled," the company's Facebook page said according to CNN.
The mislabeled 16-ounce products, titled "Classic Wieners Made With Turkey & Chicken, Pork Added" were produced March 2 and 3 and were distributed throughout the U.S. The recalled products, including individual packages and cases, have June 16, 2014 as the expiration date.
The Food Safety and Inspection Service said Kraft "received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products," the statement said.
A health provider should be contacted in the case of a possible allergic reaction, the FSIS added.
"FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to ensure that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers," the statement added.
A list of stores where the products were sold will be listed on the FSIS website.
