A video shot on a commuter's cellphone of a rat scaring New York City subway riders has gone viral, according to the New York Daily News.
The rat allegedly boarded the downtown A train at the Fulton street station during the morning commute, Jinais Ponnampadikkal Kader, whose video reached 577,000 hits on YouTube by Wednesday afternoon, the Daily News reported.
Kader said the A train was leaving the Fulton Street station when someone shouted, "Rat on the train!" according to the Daily News.
Kader says he wasn't scared but others on the morning rush-hour train jumped onto their seats, the Daily News reported. The 28-year-old Kader is a software developer who lives in Harrison, New Jersey.
"I heard someone shouting 'RAT on the train!'" Kader told the Daily News. "But by the time everyone we understood what was happening, the doors closed and the train entered the tunnel. We were stuck with him till the other end."
In Kader's video, people are heard screaming as the large rat runs from side to side and only ends when the train reaches the High Street station in Brooklyn, the Daily News reported.
Some riders can be seen seated while others were lifting their legs up or jumped up onto their seats. One man can be seen standing in the middle of the train and as the rat approaches tried to hit it, but to no avail.
"Everyone was so scared, even the men were climbing on top of chairs," Kader told the Daily News. "Usually the Monday morning ride is really boring, but this brightened it up."
The video ends as Kader bolts out of the train at the High Street station with half of the people who were in the car following him out the door, the Daily News reported.
