The San Francisco 49ers and Cleveland Browns both are reportedly making a last-ditch effort to lure free agent DeSean Jackson away from the Washington Redskins. If Jackson doesn't sign with Washington, he is expected to meet with San Francisco on Wednesday, NBC News 4 reports.
Reports early Tuesday morning indicated Washington was close to signing Jackson. The chances of the Redskins signing Jackson, though, may have decreased with at least two teams "going hard" at Jackson.
"Per sources: DeSean Jackson has 2 teams making offers. I'm told Cleveland Browns are 1 and they are going hard with offer," Dianna Russini of NBC News4 tweeted on Tuesday.
Russini also reported the 49ers as suitors for Jackson.
"Per sources: San Francisco reached out to DeSean Jackson while he was at dinner with Redskins. They want him to visit," Russini tweeted. "... (Sources close to Jackson say) if he does not sign with Washington, he will meet with the San Francisco 49ers tomorrow."
Jackson arrived Monday night in Washington, reportedly dining with the Redskins coaching staff and then going to a club with Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall and receiver Pierre Garcon. Jackson spent Tuesday at the team facility before leaving in the afternoon.
The Oakland Raiders, Buffalo Bills, New York Jets and New England Patriots have also been linked to the 27-year-old receiver.
The Philadelphia Eagles released Jackson on Friday. Since his release, there's been a bevy of rumors alleging he has gang affiliations. Jackson and people close to him have staunchly denied the allegations.
