A Romanian man was rushed to the hospital after he swallowed a fork as part of a drunken bet he made with his friend.
Radu Calincescu was taken to the emergency room at a hospital in Bacau, Romania because he was complaining of an "intense pain" in his esophagus, the UK Metro reported. Doctors proceeded to take an X-ray of Calincescu, but were stumped when they found a piece of silverware stuck in his throat.
Calincescu did not mention he swallowed a fork.
"I had been drinking and I bet with my friend that I could swallow the fork without getting hurt," Calincescu, 25, told the newspaper.
Doctors discharged the man without performing any medical procedure, telling him the fork will not cut his airway or damage any vital organs, the New York Daily News reported.
The doctors suggested he wait and see if the fork comes out naturally, the UK Metro reported.
"I have to come back in a few days to see if the fork has moved. If it reaches my stomach and looks like it could pierce the lining I will need an operation," Calincescu told the UK Metro.
The man vowed he will never do anything like that to "impress" anyone again.
"I realize now it was a very stupid thing to do. I don't think I will be taking part in any bets for a while," Calincescu told the UK Metro.
Calincescu is not the first to draw attention for swallowing foreign objects. In the past X-rays have detected scissors, marbles and knives that were all swallowed, the Daily News reported.
A U.K. man swallowed a plastic fork, only to have it removed from his stomach 10 years later, according to The Huffington Post. Doctors in that situation also thought the fork would naturally pass through his body.
