Madonna To Receive Honors For Top-Grossing Tour

Madonna can add one more accolade to her garter belt. The pop diva had the highest grossing tour of 2012.

Billboard will honor Madonna for her MDNA tour during the Billboard Music Awards May 19. Festivities take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The star performed for 2.2 million people and 88 sold-out shows, raking in $305 million during the tour, making it the ninth highest-grossing tour of all time. Madonna was also awarded the top money maker for 2012 and holds numerous other Billboard honors including the record for the most Top Ten singles.

The "MDNA" album was released in March 2012 and boasted numerous No.1 singles and making long stays on the Bilboard charts in multiple categories. The MDNA tour kicked off overseas in Tel Aviv, Israel and on U.S. soil in Philadelphia. While fans began to boo the singer for coming on stage two hours late, they supported her for the rest of the show and obviously the rest of the tour.

The Material Girl, who is no stranger to high-grossing tours and profitable record sales, has also put her money and possessions towards the greater good. Tuesday she sold a 1921 painting "Three Women at the Red Table" by Fernand Leger, at a New York City auction for $7.2 million, according to USA Today. Proceeds will benefit the Ray of Light Foundation, supporting women's education in Afghanistan, Pakistan and other countries. Madonna plans to build four more schools in Malwai, her two adopted children's home country, USA Today says.

The fashion rebel and rule-breaker made an appearance at the Metropolitan Museum of Art gala in fishnet stockings, black wig and a studded jacket. The punk-inspired event "Punk: Chaos to Couture" honored the Met's new exhibit.
