Pop star Rihanna was greeted by loud boos Monday night after she made her Boston fans wait three hours before appearing on stage, according to the Daily Mail. In March, she cancelled her Diamonds World Tour in Boston after he fell ill.
As attendees waited in TD Garden Arena, there was no opening act. Therefore, fans had nothing to do but wait for the main event. Through their Twitter accounts, angered fans berated the singer.
“Boston waited 2 months and then Rihanna was 3 hours late to her packed concert. She deserved to get booed! We were mad as hell,” tweeted one fan.
Another tweet read, “@rihanna just showed up over three hours late in Boston for a make-up show since she canceled a few months back due to sickness. Im over her.”
Although no official reason was given for her tardiness, some have suggested that she was watching the Miami Heat play the Chicago Bulls in the first round of the NBA Eastern Conference semi-finals.
The situation was only made worse when, instead of an apology tweet, Rihanna’s post concert tweet read:
“#BOSTON I will never forget this night!!! I truly have deeper love for you now!!! Thank you for making it extra special!! #DWT.”
This irked some fans. One even tweeted:
“So after the show that her fans waited 3hrs for, Rihanna tweets no explanation/apology. Rather, ‘BOSTON I will never forget this night!!!’”
Rihanna did offer an apology on Twitter in March after she was forced to miss the concert:
“#BOSTON this is the hardest thing for me to deal with! I feel like we've been waiting on this day forever, and I'm hurt that I let you down.”
Despite the boos and the negative tweets, some fans still showed their loyalty.
“I take it back @rihanna Boston loves you. #bestconcertever #BostonStrong tribute was unreal. So worth the wait,” one fan tweeted.
Another wrote: “@badgalriri showed up a little late but you made it up!!! I Loved the concert:).”
