EA Announces Sims 4 For PC and Mac in 2014; Offline Experience Included

Electronic Arts announced Monday that Sims 4 will be launched for PC and Mac in 2014 with an all new single-player offline experience.

Maxis' city-building simulation SimCity was released March 5, but got a negative reception due to server crashes. The requirement for users to stay online to play the game overloaded the servers quickly and several players could not access the game.

EA eventually addressed the technical issues in different ways by upgrading the server capacity by 400 percent and offering a free game for those who couldn't play the game after purchasing. Although, the game started off on rough grounds, it managed to pick sales quickly. According to EA blog post, SimCity has sold more than 150 million copies worldwide since the launch.

"The Sims franchise is fueled by the passion and creativity of its millions of fans around the world," a blog post from EAreads. "Their continued devotion to the franchise ignites the fire of creativity of the team at The Sims Studio, driving them to continually improve and innovate on one of the world's most successful simulation game that has sold more than 150 million copies worldwide."

EA and Maxis worked to overcome the technical difficulties following Simcity's March release. After experiencing endless difficulties with the always-online requirement, EA and Maxis supposedly took gamers' reviews into consideration and made alterations to the sequel Sims 4.

In a recent blog post Monday afternoon, Maxis not only confirmed that the next game in the franchise will have offline experience but also "new and intuitive" tools.

EA and Maxis said that The Sims 4 "celebrates the heart and soul of the Sims themselves, giving players a deeper connection with the most expressive, surprising and charming Sims ever in this single-player offline experience."

"The Sims 4 encourages players to personalize their world with new and intuitive tools while offering them the ability to effortlessly share their creativity with friends and fans," read the blog post.
