Woman Eaten By Vultures Before Her Remains Were Found

A tragic accident was made more tragic, after a woman fell to her death during a hiking accident and vultures proceeded to eat her before her remains were found, according to the New York Daily News.

The 52-year old victim is believed to have suffered the tragic fall on April 14. Her body was eaten by the scavengers in the French/Spanish Pyrenees mountain range in about 40 minutes.

Many are upset with the way her body was consumed and have called for action to be taken against the vulture population.

Those who are upset believe the anti-BSE European rules—which say that the dumping of dead animals into fields is prohibited—have forced the scavengers to turn to live cows and sheep for their food.

Alain Larralde, a local farmer, has witnessed the vultures’ capabilities.

"You can't imagine what it is like to see an animal eaten alive," said Larralde, who has watched multiple vultures attack and proceed to eat a living cow.

According to French-based news network TF1 (the website is totally in French), the victim had been with her two friends when she fell at Pic de Pista.

According to ChristianPost.com, vultures are a protected species. Therefore if a farmer kills them, they would be in violation of the law.
