AT&T Follows T-Mobile with Data Plan Changes

AT&T announced Saturday that it is making changes on its data plans, including a drop in the price of its 2GB Mobile Share Value plan. The announcement was made after T-Mobile offered made almost the same offer a day ahead.

On Friday, T-Mobile announced that it is doubling the amount of data that each customer can consume for a month free of charge. Those who subscribed to the $60 per month plan will get an increase in their data bucket to 3GB per month, instead of the usual 2.5GB per month. On the other hand, those who availed of the $70 plan per month will receive 5GB of LTE service instead of the 2.5 GB. Subscribers of the $70 monthly plan can also turn their smartphones into Wi-Fi hotspots.

The changes with AT&T's data plans, on the other hand, pretty resemble T-Mobile's offerings.

The Dallas, Texas-based network provider said that the changes it will launch will give potential plan subscribers a $15 discount, which means that two-gigabyte plan that cost $55 will become $40. However, the subscriber has to add in the cost of a smartphone to his plan of choice, PC Mag reports.

Starting Sunday, single-line Mobile Share Value plans with 2GB of data, unlimited calls and text messaging (local and international), and 50GB of cloud storage will charge $25, making the whole plan price for $65. Two-line Mobile Share Value plans with the same services, on the other hand, will charge $40 on smartphones, totaling the whole plan price for $90.

Furthermore, AT&T is also offering its subscribers a $100 bill credit for opening a new line of postpaid service that includes smartphones, feature phones, and mobile hotspots.

The same changes will be applied to existing customers who are signed up for two years with the 2GB Mobile Share Value plan. However, it is still unknown if subscribers of other service plans, like the 4GB plan, will get the same perks.

The new offering will be a good one for AT&T's 1GB Mobile Share Value plan subscribers as their plan will no longer be available beginning Sunday.
