Martinelli’s recalls apple juice sold in grocery stores around the U.S. over high arsenic levels.

Martinelli's has recalled one of its premium apple juices that's sold at major retailers across the nation, including Target, Whole Foods, and Publix, due to exceeding levels of inorganic arsenic according to the US Food and Drug Administration's standards.

The recall affects most one-liter bottles with a "best by" date of either March 9, 2026, or March 20, 2026, as reported by USA Today.

The pricey beverages, which are also being sold at Kroger and Winn-Dixie for roughly $18 each, were sent to stores between March 13, 2023, and September 27, 2023.

Maryland State has since tested a sample of juice from the initial lot and discovered that it contains levels above the guidance level for inorganic arsenic.

Such levels can lead to acute arsenic poisoning, which comes with "immediate symptoms" like "vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea," said the World Health Organization.

"These are followed by numbness and tingling of the extremities, muscle cramping, and death in extreme cases," the WHO added.

In a letter sent to grocery stores and obtained by the New York Post, it was revealed that no illnesses have been reported as a result of the recall thus far.

"Please immediately discontinue distributing and selling the identified lot of the one-liter bottles of Martinelli's Apple Juice by examining your inventory," the company warned.
