Trump promised "bigger and better" South Carolina rally after he cancels event in bad weather.

Former President Donald Trump called into a North Carolina rally to tell supporters on a public address system that he wouldn't be appearing as a storm approached the airport where the rally was being held.

Speaking from his private plane Trump cited the weather, and said "they" want us to tell you to leave and "seek shelter," not specifying who made the call.

He promised a crowd of people already gathered under darkend skies in Wilmington Saturday evening that the rally would be rescheduled "bigger and better."

The rally would have been Trump's first time at a rally since the start of his hush-money trial in Manhattan.

'I think we're gonna have to just do a rain check. I'm so sad," Trump said through the speakers at the rally as boos erupted among the crowd that could be heard on video of the scene.

"I'm devastated that this could happen but we want to keep everybody safe," Trump said through the speakers less than an hour before he was scheduled to take the stage.

Several Trump supporters had already been at the site for hours.

"I've been with Donald Trump and I'm still with Donald Trump, but I'm disappointed he didn't show up," a supporter who drove two hours to attend the rally told the AP. "I'm mad at Mother Nature, but I stand behind Trump," she added.
