The earthquake that struck the New York City region on Friday interrupts a meeting of the United Nations Security Council on Gaza.

The 4.8 magnitude earthquake shook up a hearing on the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza on Friday, according to social media postings.

The shudder ripped through the building in New York City as Janti Soeripto, the president and CEO of "Save the Children," was talking about the need for education in Gaza, prompting one member to remark: "You're making the ground shake," UN News said in a posting on X.

Cameras filming the meeting shook.

Soeripto paused during the shaking, began again and halted once more before being given the OK to continue.

The earthquake struck near Whitehouse Station in New Jersey, about 30 miles west of New York City. The rumblings could be felt from Pennsylvania to Connecticut.
