Colombian pop star Shakira surprised fans with a free concert in Times Square on Tuesday evening.

The album came days after she released her 12th album, "Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran."

The 'Hips Don't Lie' singer had alerted fans about the show in an X post hours before hitting the stage. At 7:30 p.m. a billboard opened up and revealed the stage.

Shakira then launched into a short set with several of her hits.

"What an insane experience!!," she said in an X post after the show. "Thank you for such an amazing welcome and for coming to party with me NY!"

By the time she finished her pop-up performance in a space above the busy Manhattan district, there were an estimated 40,000 people watching.

It is her first new LP since 2017's "El Dorado" and Shakira spoke about the intervening years in a wide-ranging interview with the Latin Times, telling them she is "in love with feeling powerful."

Shakira agreed to a plea deal with Spanish prosecutors in November over tax evasion charges after maintaining her innocence for almost five years.

The superstar received a suspended three-year sentence and EUR 7 million ($7.6 million). She had faced the posibility of prison time.

She said that her decision to reach a deal was for personal, emotional, and sentimental reasons unrelated to legal reasons. She added that she was ready to defend her innocence but decided to prioritize her career and children.
