Kaylee Gain is breathing on her own again after a March 8 brawl left her unconscious.

A 16-year-old Missouri girl beaten unconscious in a brawl caught on viral video is now breathing on her own and has been moved out of the intensive care unit at the hospital where she's recovering, her family said Friday.

Kaylee Gain was thrown to the ground and punched in the head by a fellow teen girl during the March 8 altercation near Hazelwood East High School in St. Louis, video of the fight shows.

Gain's head was then slammed into the sidewalk multiple times, the footage shows.

She was left unconscious with potentially life-threatening injuries including a skull fracture and brain trauma, according to her family.

In an update posted Friday to a GoFundMe drive organized on Gain's behalf, relatives said that the teen has made some progress in her recovery.

"We are happy to share that Kaylee is breathing on her own, remains stable and the best news so far is that we have been moved out of the ICU," the update reads. "We are truly blessed by the outpouring of support and your prayers. It means so much to us!"

It remains unclear what sparked the brawl, which remains under police investigation.

St. Louis County Police wrote in a Facebook post earlier this month that a 15-year-old girl had been arrested on assault charges.

Authorities have not publicly identified the 15-year-old.

The family of the younger teen has said that she was the victim and was defending herself in the fight.
