A man was shot in the head aboard a crowded Brooklyn subway train on Thursday, as reported by the police. This incident caused a wave of panic among rush-hour passengers, leading them to quickly exit the train.

An arrest has been made and a weapon was recovered, police said, according to WABC-TV.

The shooting created disruptions in service for riders of the A and C trains, WPIX-TV reported.

It's unclear what led up to the deadly incident, which marked the fourth murder in the New York transit system, so far this year, according to The New York Times.

The slaying comes more than a week after New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced a five-point plan to protect subway riders, which includes deploying 250 police officers and 750 National Guard members to patrol the area, and accelerating the installation of new cameras.

The NYPD did not immediately respond to Headlines & Global News' request for comment.
