Opposing attorneys in the Fani Willis affair situation clashed during the final arguments for efforts to disqualify the Fulton County district attorney.

The situation comes as Willis is being accused of having an improper personal relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade. The allegations could have the district attorney disqualified from being involved in the former president's Georgia election interference case.

The attorneys in Donald Trump's Georgia election interference case delivered their final arguments on Friday regarding Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis' alleged relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade.

Attorneys representing Trump and his Georgia co-defendants made their final pitch on Friday and attacked Willis' credibility and motives given her romantic relationship with Wade. After three hours of legal arguments, Judge Scott McAfee indicated that he was hoping to issue a ruling on the matter in the next two weeks.

The judge said that it was already made clear that there were several legal issues to sort through and several factual determinations that he had to make. McAfee added that these are not ones that he can make at the moment. He said that he would take the time to make sure that he gives the case the full consideration that it is due, as per The Hill.

Now, the judge in the case is tasked with determining whether or not Willis and her office should be blocked from continuing to prosecute the Republican businessman and his allies. It is a decision that will potentially dictate the future of the historic election interference case in Georgia. Trump has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

The arguments on Friday capped a battle that has now lasted nearly two months over whether or not Willis' romance with Wade amounted to a conflict of interest. The two individuals acknowledged their relationship but described the calls to step away as meritless.

In a statement, the county's chief deputy district attorney, Adam Abbate, said that the motion to disqualify Willis should be denied. He said that the district attorney and Wade should be allowed to remain on Trump's Georgia case and continue to prosecute the defendants.

Disqualifying the District Attorney

An attorney for Willis' office described the defense's star witness as a "disgruntled, vengeful, speculator." The remarks were made as he fought back against claims that the district attorney should be disqualified from the Trump Georgia case, according to CNN.

Abbate said that the text messages exchanged between the witness, Terrence Bradley, and a defense attorney "show that he is vengeful." The defense had wanted Bradley to undercut some of the testimony that was provided by Wade and Willis.

However, he failed to deliver damaging testimony during a hearing earlier this week and he repeatedly said that he could not recall when the two individuals' relationship began. Bradley is Wade's one-time divorce attorney and former law partner.

In the text exchanges, Bradley claimed some knowledge of when Wade and Willis' relationship started. He also offered the defense lawyer, Ashleigh Merchant, reassurance as she submitted her motion to disqualify to the court.

On Jan. 8, the day that Merchant filed the motion, she texted Bradley that she was nervous, adding that the development is "huge." In response, the witness encouraged the attorney, saying, "You are huge. You will be fine," said the New York Times.
