The Missouri State Highway Patrol said on Friday (Mar. 1) that Independence Police Officer Cody Allen and Drexel Mack, a civil process server from the Jackson County Circuit Court, were shot dead during an eviction at a home in Independence, about an hour from Kansas City.

In a press conference with local media, Missouri State Highway Patrol chief Justin Ewing confirmed that two other officers were shot at and injured in the incident, totaling the number of casualties to four.

Ewing added that the two injured officers have been taken to hospital and are expected to recover from their injuries.

How the Shooting Happened

On Thursday afternoon, local time (Nov. 29), the first calls came in from the scene saying that Mack was shot at the residence while serving an eviction order. Several other process servers were also at the scene, though no officers were with them at that time.

After a request for immediate assistance, officers from the Independence Police Department arrived, and they were fired upon, Ewing added.

The male suspect was eventually taken into custody and taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Missouri Governor Mike Parson released a statement on X, formerly Twitter, as the situation unfolded, confirming that officers were shot and injured.

"Teresa and I are praying for the @IndepMoPolice officers involved and all who work to protect us," he said.
