Jack Teixeira, a Massachusetts Air National Guardsman accused of leaking highly classified military documents, is expected to plead guilty in his federal case.

The 22-year-old, who has been incarcerated since his arrest last April, will undergo a change of plea hearing on Monday, as indicated by a motion filed by federal prosecutors in Boston. Prosecutors requested the judge to set a change of plea hearing for Monday, with no further details provided at the moment.

Teixeira to Change Plea

Teixeira, initially pleading not guilty to six counts of willful retention and transmission of national defense information, has now decided to change his plea, according to sources familiar with the case. He was 21 years old when he was arrested.

The specifics of the plea agreement, including the exact charges to which Teixeira will plead, have not been publicly disclosed.

The accusations against Teixeira stem from his alleged actions of leaking classified documents, which he accessed through his position in the Air National Guard, onto social media platforms such as Discord.

The leaked information reportedly included details about military equipment destined for Ukraine, as well as sensitive intelligence regarding Russia's activities in Ukraine and other geopolitical matters.

Teixeira's involvement in the dissemination of classified information became apparent when federal authorities detected him sharing documents on Discord, particularly within a chat group called "Thug Shaker Central."

In this group, which comprised mostly young men and teenagers with interests in gaming and firearms, Teixeira allegedly boasted about his access to classified materials.

According to federal prosecutors, Teixeira purportedly told them, "All the shit I've told you guys I'm not supposed to."

This photo illustration created on April 13, 2023, shows the Discord logo and the suspect, national guardsman Jack Teixeira, reflected in an image of the Pentagon in Washington, DC. - FBI agents on Thursday arrested a young national guardsman suspected of being behind a major leak of sensitive US government secrets -- including about the Ukraine war. US Attorney General Merrick Garland announced the arrest made "in connection with an investigation into alleged unauthorized removal, retention and transmission of classified national defense information."

Prosecutors have highlighted Teixeira's continued sharing of classified information despite warnings from superiors and have underscored the seriousness of the breach. His actions have been described as one of the most significant breaches of US national security since the 2010 WikiLeaks disclosures.

In response to Teixeira's arrest, the Air Force initiated disciplinary measures against several individuals, including the removal of the commander of Teixeira's unit. The severity of the leak prompted the Pentagon to review and enhance its security protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.

"Every [military member] is entrusted with the solemn duty to safeguard our nation's classified defense information," Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall stated. "When there is a breach of that sacred trust, for any reason, we will act in accordance with our laws and policies to hold responsible individuals accountable."

Teixeira's case has drawn attention not only for the implications on national security but also for the manner in which he allegedly used social media platforms to disseminate sensitive information.

His decision to plead guilty comes after months of legal proceedings and investigations into the extent of his involvement in the leak of classified documents.

The implications of Teixeira's actions extend beyond his individual case, raising questions about the security of sensitive information within military institutions and the potential vulnerabilities posed by personnel with access to classified materials.

His actions prompted the Biden administration to swiftly assess and address the international repercussions, while also reassuring allies about the security of classified US information.

As he prepares to enter his guilty plea, the focus will now shift to the sentencing phase, where the court will determine the appropriate punishment for his crimes.
