A man driving across Sharpsburg, Georgia has been involved in a road accident, which left him trapped inside his burning vehicle. He was saved from the fire when deputies of the Coweta County Sheriff's Office came to the scene and pulled him out.

According to Fox 5 Atlanta, Sgt. Steven Mills, a deputy of the department, found the SUV in flames after the car veered off the road and hit a tree before catching on fire.

Bodycam footage showed Mills breaking the car's windows and found the man trapped in the car's driver's seat. He and another deputy were forced to pull the man out from the back window of the car.

The sheriff's office also told the Newnan Times-Herald that the incident happened early Thursday morning (Feb. 1).

Deputies Receive Commendations for Heroic Action

Sheriff Lenn Wood said that Mills was humbled about the incident, saying that his department only found out about the deputy's actions from firefighters.

"This incident highlights the critical need for the right tools and training," the sheriff said. "Thanks to our recent investments, Sgt. Mills was able to save a life."

Coweta Fire Chief Robby Flanagan added the commendation for the deputies' quick-thinking.

"We're grateful for our law enforcement and commend them for their quick actions," he said. "There's great teamwork in public safety and they most certainly saved his life."
