On Friday, Jan. 5, the CDC posted a food safety alert involving Busseto Foods brand ready-to-eat charcuterie meat products. Fratelli Beretta, a partner of Busseto Foods, recently recalled over 11,000 pounds of meat products.

The Italian meat business did this after the Minnesota Department of Agriculture confirmed that one of its unopened sample products tested positive for salmonella.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that after the collected "Busseto Foods Charcuterie Sampler Prosciutto, Sweet Soppressata, and Dry Coppa" tested positive for salmonella, they immediately opened a probe.

"Testing is being conducted to determine if the Salmonella in the sample is the outbreak strain," said CDC via its official food safety alert.

According to Yahoo Finance's latest report, the CDC is still checking if these meat samplers are the main cause of the alarming salmonella outbreak in the U.S., which affects 15 states.

CDC officials provided some tips that American consumers can follow to avoid consuming meat samplers with salmonella. The health agency said that the best thing people can do is check their refrigerators for the mentioned meat sampler above.

In case they have one or more, they must immediately throw them away or return those charcuterie meats from where they were purchased, specifically at Sam's Club warehouses.

If ever one of the family members accidentally ate the meat sampler, here are the symptoms to look out for:

  • Diarrhea for more than 3 days that is not improving
  • Diarrhea and a fever higher than 102°F
  • Signs of dehydration, such as:
    • Dry mouth and throat
