The United Kingdom has warned residents of an expected arctic blast that would bring sub-zero temperatures to the region for 24 hours.

The Met Office said that several parts of Britain would be struck with sleet and snow, and Saturday is expected to become the coldest night of the year. A spokesman for the agency said that the cold and variable weather is usual this time of year.

The UK is telling its residents to prepare for an arctic blast that could bring sub-zero temperatures to the region as well as sleet and snow in other parts.

They noted that they could observe big changes in temperatures in the region, noting that all it takes is a quick shift from a southern wind into a north wind to cause that particular development. The spokesman added that seeing these kinds of changes was not unusual.

The National Weather Service added that sleet and snow could fall north of Scotland and on peaks above 400 meters. A meteorologist for the agency, Aidan McGivern, explained that by the end of the week, they would see cold winds arriving from the north, as per Ladbible.

Meteorologists believe that the evening would have thermometers reading minus four degrees Celsius in Wales and minus five degrees Celsius in the rural South West. He noted that it would feel colder this week and that there would be some snow showers, primarily over the hills in northern Scotland.

McGivern said that other areas with high pressure would mostly dry on Friday and into the start of the weekend. Meteorologists said that daytime temperatures are not expected to reach double digits on Saturday but would go back to above 10 degrees Celsius on Sunday and into the following week.

Chris England, the weather producer of Sky News, said that the people in the region could expect Arctic air to spread over most of the UK within the next few days. He said it could bring powerful winds and hail and snow showers to the north and east.

Sub-Zero Temperatures

He added that high pressure from the west would likely settle things down later on Friday, bringing an extensive frost that would develop overnight. According to the Telegraph, temperatures are expected to be a degree or two (Celsius) above or below the freezing point.

The situation comes as the Environment Agency issued two flood warnings and 37 flood alerts in the region. Local flooding is possible from groundwater across parts of the South of England from Wednesday through Friday. On the other hand, local coastal flooding is possible but not expected for Friday at the Norfolk, Suffolk, and Essex coasts.

Friday would also see temperatures plummeting in Liverpool, with residents experiencing zero degrees Celsius overnight. Furthermore, weather experts said that people in the area should be ready for frost and "wintry showers."

While the region's Met Office does not predict snow soon, other forecasters have said it could fall in Liverpool in the next three weeks. According to Yahoo News, Accuweather said that the region could see snow as soon as Dec. 13 and bring a "snow shower" in the morning.
