OpenAI, the company behind the world-famous ChatGPT, is letting the public at large have access to creating new GPTs with its new app store for AI.

The development would not only allow people to create their own GPT for fun or productivity but also give them the chance, in the future, to publish them on a marketplace called the GPT Store.

OpenAI is allowing people to create their own GPTs for fun or productivity and soon be able to monetize such technology with its GPT Store.

The new features were announced with many others at OpenAI's first developer day in San Francisco. They indicate a more hands-off approach to the artificial intelligence marketplace, which has become defined by a handful of dedicated general-purpose systems.

These systems have steadily become even more general-purposes with new capabilities but OpenAI has clearly taken a page from Apple's book in seeing that being the go-to platform for the ingenuity of others is at least as valuable as having ingenuity oneself.

In a statement, OpenAI founder and CEO Sam Altman said that they believe if people are given the tools, they will be able to do amazing things. To further that objective, the company is introducing what it's calling GPTs, "custom versions of ChatGPT that you can create for a specific purpose," as per TechCrunch.

GPTs can also be made with no coding experience and can be created as simple or complex as users want them to be. For example, someone could have a GPT trained on a recipe collection so that they can quickly ask what ingredients they would need for a particular soup.

On the other hand, people can have the technology ingest information on a sprawling fantasy series so that they can ask about the characters in the show. Developers or companies could also have a GPT trained on their proprietary code so that others can quickly check their style or generate harmonious code.

It is also possible to create a GPT simply by chatting with ChatGPT and describing what they want. Altman noted that people can, in effect, program a GPT with language just by talking to it, adding that it is easy to customize the behavior so they do what they want to be done.

The new feature will be available to paying ChatGPT Plus subscribers and OpenAI enterprise customers and the latter will be able to create internal-only GPTs for their employees. On top of the new GPTs, OpenAI announced a turbocharged, cheaper GPT-4, lower prices for developers that use its models in their apps, and the news that ChatGPT has reached an astonishing 100 million weekly users, according to The Verge.

The monetization of GPTs will start after OpenAI launches its GPT Store later this month. It would be part of a renewed effort from the company's failed attempts to build an ecosystem of ChatGPT plugins earlier this year.

Altman said that OpenAI believes that gradual iterative deployment is the best way to address the safety challenges of artificial intelligence technology. He noted that it is crucial to move carefully toward the future.

There were hundreds lined up around the block in the Mid-Market neighborhood of San Francisco even before attendees were allowed to check in early Monday morning. Most of these were developers who were eager to get updates to OpenAI technology, said Reuters.
