Palestinians with their belongings flee to safer areas in Gaza City after Israeli air strikes, on October 13, 2023. Israel has called for the immediate relocation of 1.1 million people in Gaza amid its massive bombardment in retaliation for Hamas's attacks, with the United Nations warning of "devastating" consequences.

The two Israeli women escaped Hamas gunmen during an ambush on a kibbutz.

Their quick thinking and resourcefulness allowed them to find refuge behind a nearby car until the arrival of IDF soldiers, who directly got involved and ensured their safe removal, as per Mail Online.

Israeli Women Survive Hamas Ambush

Ariel, a 26-year-old bartender from Be'er Sheva, had joined his friends at Zikim Beach, about 3 kilometers north of Gaza, to celebrate the departure of their co-workers.

As dawn broke, the group was awakened by loud explosions and sirens. Quickly realizing the gravity of the situation, they sought refuge between two containers, hiding for around 20 minutes. However, their ordeal was far from over. Ariel vividly recalls the appearance of rubber boats on the horizon, carrying Hamas fighters.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) responded to the threat, engaging in a fierce firefight with the militants. Chaos erupted as bullets whizzed through the air, and the group found themselves trapped between the IDF and the attackers.

Fearing for their lives, Ariel shouted for everyone to run. Amid the panic, the group sought shelter at a nearby military base. Their request to take refuge in the base was initially met with suspicion, as the guards were wary of potential infiltrators dressed in civilian clothing.

The group's anxiety grew as gunfire drew nearer, and they realized that the militants attacked the base. They found themselves in the unenviable position of being sandwiched between threats from within and without. Ariel, a former military combat commander, came forward to protect the group, including 15 visibly shaken women.

Ariel took up an M16 rifle, demonstrating their determination to protect those in charge. In a dire turn of events, the base was under relentless missile strikes from Gaza.

The group found themselves in detention, their future hanging in the balance as they faced the hanging possibilities of gunfire, missile strikes, or the ever-present danger of kidnapping. After an hour of tense waiting, the group decided to break for it in two cars and an SUV. Little did they know they were driving into a meticulously laid trap set by the militants, according to Metro.

Surviving Ambush Amidst Israel-Hamas Conflict

The attackers had taken over police patrol cars and were waiting for anyone attempting to escape. As Ariel and his friends approached the scene at high speed, they initially mistook what they saw as a lifeless body inside one of the patrol cars.

To their shock, the body suddenly sprang to life and opened fire on them while the assailants hiding in the bushes unleashed a hail of bullets. During the chaotic incident, a close friend of Ariel found themselves with a gunshot wound to the hand.

Through a stroke of luck, they successfully fled the spot and made their way towards the east, where ambulances were stationed. However, the danger was far from over for Ariel's group.

Ten of their friends, who had driven away earlier, learned of the ambush and decided to return to the military base for safety. Tragically, one of their friends, Mor, had left the area shortly before the initial attacks.

Her abandoned car was later found riddled with bullet holes, and a police officer had taken her body among the first responders to the scene. The survivors' accounts of the terrifying ordeal vividly depict the chaos and fear gripping the region during the ongoing conflict.

Ordinary people are thrust into life-threatening situations, struggling to make life-saving decisions amid the mayhem. With the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, stories such as these stand as severe reflections of the human cost it causes.

Between the intricate challenges governments and international organizations face, innocent civilians bear the brunt of the war. The prospect of a peaceful resolution remains elusive, and the global community anxiously observes the unfolding events in this volatile region.
