A protester returns a tear gas canister during clashes with Israeli forces following a demonstration against the expropriation of Palestinian land by Israel in the village of Kfar Qaddum, in the occupied West Bank on September 29, 2023.

In a West Bank army raid on Thursday, the Palestinian health ministry stated that two Palestinian militants were fatally shot by Israeli gunfire.

In the occupied territory, the recent deaths mark the continuation of a surge of violence that has persisted for several months.

In the early morning hours, the Israeli military reportedly conducted a raid, prompting troops to respond by shooting Palestinian gunmen. In the recent clashes, it has been reported that a total of five border police officers sustained injuries

The two men, who were later claimed by the Hamas militant group that governs the Gaza Strip, have been identified. In a continuing wave of violence that has consumed the occupied territory for over a year and a half, the incident unfolded as the latest occurrence.

In a series of near-nightly operations, the Israeli military has conducted raids into Palestinian towns, resulting in frequent and sometimes fatal confrontations with local residents. A surge in militancy has been observed among young Palestinians, according to ABC News.

In a recent development, Israeli troops took decisive action by closing roads in the vicinity and successfully apprehending two individuals who were traveling in a car. The Israeli military said that the troops promptly "neutralized" the suspects, as per Big News Network.

According to the report, an M-16 rifle and magazines, which were allegedly used by the Palestinians, were discovered in the vehicle. Two youths were discovered deceased following an incident where their vehicle was allegedly targeted by Israeli soldiers near Shufa.

Israel-Palestine Violence

In the ongoing surge of violence between Israel and Palestinians in the West Bank, the incident in question has emerged as the latest occurrence.

In recent months, the West Bank, an area that is considered to be illegally occupied by Israel, has experienced a significant increase in violence. This surge in violence comes amidst a nearly decade-long stalemate in United States-sponsored peacemaking efforts.

In an ongoing operation spanning over 18 months, Israel has intensified its military raids, focusing primarily on the northern region of the occupied West Bank. The objective behind these raids, as stated by Israeli authorities, is to eliminate Palestinian resistance fighters and prevent potential future attacks, Aljazeera reported.

In a span of 56 years, the Israeli army has maintained a military occupation in the West Bank, a region that is home to approximately three million Palestinians. This occupation has been widely regarded as illegal by the United Nations and the majority of countries.

In a significant development, Israel carried out a major offensive on the occupied West Bank in July, resulting in the loss of lives and injuries. Reports indicate that at least 12 Palestinians were killed in the Jenin refugee camp, while approximately 100 others sustained injuries during the attack.

According to the United Nations, 2023 has been declared as the deadliest year for Palestinians since the organization began recording fatalities in 2006.

These individuals, who have lost hope in their leadership and the possibility of a political resolution to the conflict, are now taking matters into their own hands. In the West Bank, the death toll of Palestinians due to Israeli fire has reached a significant milestone this year.

Nearly 200 Palestinians have lost their lives, marking the highest number of fatalities in recent years. According to Israeli officials, the majority of those killed in the ongoing conflict have been identified as militants.

However, it is important to note that alongside these militants, there have also been casualties among stone-throwing youths who are protesting incursions, as well as innocent bystanders. Since the beginning of 2023, over 30 individuals have lost their lives in a series of Palestinian attacks targeting Israelis.

In the 1967 Mideast war, Israel successfully captured the West Bank, east Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip.
