Twitter CEO Elon Musk revealed plans to change the social media platform's iconic bird logo to an X, moving forward with his plans to create a "super app" similar to China's WeChat.

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk revealed his plans to change Twitter's iconic bird logo with an X, signaling his plans to create a "super app" similar to China's WeChat.

If it pushes through, the change will be considered the biggest change since Musk's acquisition of the social media platform last year in a $44 billion deal. On Sunday, the new Twitter CEO said in a series of posts on his account that he plans to make the logo change effective worldwide as soon as Monday.

Twitter To Change Logo to X

In his tweet, he said, "And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds." Musk also posted an image that featured a flickering "X" and later posted in Twitter Spaces an audio chat that replied with "Yes" when asked if the Twitter logo would change. He added that it should have been done long ago, as per Aljazeera.

During the billionaire entrepreneur's controversial tenure since buying the social media platform in October last year, it has changed its business name to X Corp. Musk also said that his purchase of Twitter was meant to be an accelerant to the creation of X, which he called the "everything app."

Musk's rocket company, Space Exploration Technologies Corps., is also known as SpaceX. The billionaire entrepreneur founded a startup in 1999 called X.com, an online financial services company now known as PayPal.

Twitter is believed to have roughly 200 million active users daily, but it has come under repeated technical failures since Musk's purchase and subsequent laying off of staff. Since the deal, many users and advertisers have expressed discontent with the direction the social media platform is taking.

Many users on the social media platform would become confused if the logo suddenly changed. A co-founder of marking consultancy Metaforce, Allen Adamson, said that users would not be able to get the point of the change as Musk sees it, according to The Guardian.

Elon Musk's Controversial Twitter Takeover

On the other hand, Linda Yaccarino, Twitter's chief executive, confirmed the launch of the X brand on Sunday. She posted on the platform that it was exceptionally rare, for both business and in life, to get a second chance to make another big impression.

She noted that the first one for Twitter was changing the way it communicates, and the second would be the all-but-guaranteed logo change. Yaccarino noted that X would be "centered in audio, video, messaging, and payments/banking."

The logo change comes after Musk temporarily changed the platform's logo in April with Dogecoin's Shiba Inu dog. The move helped drive a surge in the market value of the meme coin.

However, Musk later received accusations of insider trading by a group of Dogecoin investors, who argued that he profited from the increased price of the coin's value. Twitter users also criticized the CEO when he announced earlier this month that the platform would limit how many tweets per day various account holders can read, said BBC.
