The fork New York Mayor Bill de Blasio famously used to eat his pizza sold for $2,500 at a charity auction this week.
The winning anonymous bidder was one of six who submitted offers on the online auction, the Associated Press reported on Friday.
Charity officials will donate the proceeds to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, an organization that supports emergency first responders and service members who have been injured in the line of duty.
Foundation Chairman Frank Siller told the New York Daily News that the anonymous winner decided to return the fork to Goodfella's Pizza, the location of the event in question.
Co-owner of the Staten Island pizzeria Marc Cosentino told local news site DNAinfo that he was glad the famous fork was back in his establishment.
"It's a nice piece of New York history to have," Cosentino said.
De Blasio, who caught serious heat from pizza purists who chastised his method of pie consumption, took the first fateful bite in the restaurant earlier this year.
When photos of De Blasio going against the folding method typical of eating New York style pizza surfaced, the public chided his use of a knife and fork.
"In my ancestral homeland, it is more typical to eat with a fork and knife," de Blasio explained to New York 4 at the time. "I have been in Italy a lot and I have picked up the habit for certain types of pizza."
He also noted that the slice "had a lot on it."
