Parents 'Horrified': UK Family-Friendly Theme Park Apologizes for Drag Queen Act

The owner of Adventure Island, a family-friendly theme park in the UK's Essex County, has apologized for the inclusion of a drag queen's performance over the weekend.

A clip showing the act was filmed last Saturday (July 15) by a concerned parent who was watching former Ru Paul's Drag Race UK contestant Colin "Crystal" Munro with his young son.

Munro was seen wielding an angle grinder and wearing fishnet tights, a leotard, and a pair of high heels while performing to the tune of Scissor Sisters' hit Filthy/Gorgeous as part of the culmination of the Southend-on-Sea Park's Pride celebrations.

He was making thrusting motions with his hips and ran his hand up and down the grinder while using it to make sparks fly from a metal plate fixed to his crotch.

Adventure Island executive chairman Philip Miller told the Daily Mail there had been "confusion" as to "what [they] would allow or not." He added the "grinding act" was "definitely a nonstarter" due to it not being "family entertainment."

Miller also vowed that the park would not participate in any future Pride celebrations nor would Crystal be booked again.

According to Munro, his weekend appearance at the amusement park was the third year in a row. He also insisted "nothing" he did in the act was sexual.

"My act is no different to what you might see on Britain's Got Talent, from Lady Gaga on MTV, or from a street performer in Covent Garden," Crystal added. "This is deemed 'sexual' solely because I was performing in drag."

Munro was previously known in 2021 for suing the actor Laurence Fox after he branded the drag queen and two other people as pedophiles on social media.

Parents: We're Not Coming Back After Drag Queen Act

Amanda, a mother of two, told the Daily Mail she would not be coming back to Adventure Island after seeing the clip. "I won't be going back and I won't be taking my kids there," she said.

"That is a line you don't cross. That tells me everything you need to know about how they value children."

She revealed the man who took the video was a friend of hers who was "outraged and horrified" by the performance. Amanda added that while the man normally enjoyed taking part in Pride events, Crystal's display was "not ok" since children were present during the show.

"We humbly apologize to all of our loyal customers for any offense caused," Miller told patrons. "Rest assured we will not be rebooking this act or participating in any future Pride celebrations. It's just not for us, we tried to be inclusive but it has backfired on us."
