This is the second of four debates during the presidential election season and the only debate between the vice presidential candidates before the closely-contested election on November 6.

In his re-election campaigns, POTUS decided to use a very unusual strategy, which is making his old age a punchline.

Recently, numerous people have already shared their concerns regarding Biden's age.

One of them is Marianne Williamson. The American bestselling self-help author said that Joe would be selfish if he ran for a second term.

But it looks like Biden is using his old age as a tactic to make his re-election campaigns stand out.

During the recent events on international diplomacy and gun safety, the American leader cracked jokes about his age, saying he's been around a long time.

As of writing, numerous polls revealed that more than 60% of registered American voters are moderately concerned about Biden's physical and mental health because of his old age.

This is why Joe's aides said that the U.S. president couldn't ignore this issue.

"Joking about age allows him to simultaneously own the advantages of experience and defuse through humor any doubts about fitness," explained a former White House official.

Is It Effective?

As of writing, it is still unclear if Biden's new tactic is effective when it comes to acquiring the trust of voters.

But, by connecting his experience to his age, Joe is able to lighten up this issue and make it an advantage against his opponents.

According to Article II of the U.S. Constitution, there are only three requirements for presidential candidates.

USA Today provided them below:

  • Be a natural-born citizen of the United States.
  • Must be at least 35 years old.
  • Must have lived in the United States for at least 14 years.

Based on these requirements, Biden can still run for the presidency. But, if he wants to win, he needs to show that he's still mentally and physically capable of becoming the leader of the U.S. once again.
