Despite the season-ending injury to Bulls star Derrick Rose, Chicago has found ways to win and currently have the fourth best record in the Eastern Conference. The Bulls (28-25) are one of four Eastern Conference teams with a winning record and are riding a four-game winning streak into Friday night's contest.
Much like last season, Chicago owes their success to an overall team effort. Center Joakim Noah is having one of his best seasons as a pro; his 11.8 points and 11.4 rebounds per game even earned him an invite to the 2014 All-Star Game.
D.J. Augustin, a new addition for the season, is also enjoying one of his best seasons with 13.8 points and 5.5 assists per game as a Bull, and third-year pro Jimmy Butler is averaging a career-high 12.5 points per contest.
Butler was crucial to Chicago's 94-92 win on Wednesday over Toronto, where he scored 16 points and blocked a potential game-winning shot from Raptors guard DeMar DeRozan.
"Jimmy had a great paly basically to save the game for us," Bulls forward Carlos Boozer said, via ESPN. "We needed one stop and Jimmy got it for us."
Denver (25-28) also has been forced to overcome injuries. Despite season-ending injuries to guard Nate Robinson, forward Danilo Gallinari and center JaVale McGee, the Nuggets remain in playoff contention and trail the No. 8 seed Dallas Mavericks by six games.
The Nuggets ended their five-game skid on Thursday with a 101-90 win over the Milwaukee Bucks.
"It good to feel what it's like to get a 'W' again," Nuggets coach Brian Shaw said. "It's been a while for us."
